Women’s Basketball Add Impressive Local Talent

ST. JOHN'S, NL – The Memorial University women's basketball program is proud to announce the commitment of local 6'0 post Coryssa Tucker to the Sea-Hawks for the 2026-2027 season.

Tucker, a talented and hardworking post player, brings size, strength, and an impressive competitive edge to the Memorial frontcourt. Known for her ability to create and finish around the rim, she is also relentless on the boards at both ends of the floor.

Coryssa, who attends Prince of Wales Collegiate in St. John's, was a key member of the NL Canada Games team this past summer where she averaged an incredible 18 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.

"I chose to play for Memorial because of the culture," said Tucker. "Coach Mark, the coaching staff, and the team have been so welcoming and encouraging. How hard the team works and how they strive to push each other and make each other better is something I really wanted to be a part of. I have always wanted to play at home for the province I love. Being able to play for the team I've always looked up to is something very special."

Head coach Mark English expressed his enthusiasm about Tucker's addition to the program.

"We are extremely excited to have Coryssa commit to our program," said English. "I have been following her development since she was in grade 9, and she has improved every year. Her compete level is extremely high and Coryssa's toughness and skill set are impressive. But what really sets her apart is her positivity, leadership, and that she is a great teammate. We are really looking forward to working with Coryssa and helping her reach her academic and athletic goals here at Memorial, and can't wait to see her have an immediate impact with our program next season."

Tucker is eager to take the next step in her development as both a player and teammate.

"I am most looking forward to further developing my game," she said. "This program provides a great environment for me to grow and succeed as a player, and I am very excited to contribute to the team. A big part of my game is creating and finishing around the rim. I work to pursue every board, both offensively and defensively. I am looking forward to bringing my physicality and competitiveness to the team next season."

Tucker's commitment continues to strengthen the women's basketball program as they continue to build for long-term success. The Sea-Hawks open regular season play on Friday, October 24th at home vs the St. FX X-Women.
