Transfer Wing Commits Seahawks

The Memorial Seahawks women's basketball program is pleased to announce the commitment of 5'11 wing Maya Ball of Komoka, Ontario.

Maya joins the Seahawks after spending the past two seasons with Western University in the OUA. Prior to her time at Western, she developed into one of the top players in the JUEL league with the London Ramblers, where she earned league all-star honours and was named to the league's all-defensive team.

A versatile guard, Ball brings a well-rounded game to Memorial, with the ability to impact both ends of the floor. Her combination of size, skill, and basketball IQ allows her to score in a variety of ways while also being able to defend multiple positions.

Head Coach Mark English is excited to have Ball commit to the program after first recruiting her out of high school.

"We tried to recruit Maya when she was coming out of high school, but she had already made the decision to attend Western. We are excited to add Maya's versatility and compete level. She can impact the game in so many ways. Offensively, she can score at all three levels and really shoot the basketball, and defensively she has the ability to guard multiple positions."

Ball is looking forward to the next chapter of her academic and athletic career at Memorial.

"I chose Memorial because it is a great fit both academically and athletically. The team culture is great, the coaching staff is great, and it is a beautiful school with very welcoming people. I am excited to play with the girls and be in a competitive environment that will help me grow as a person and player."

When asked how she feels her style fits with the Seahawks, ball had this to say.

"I am a very hard worker that is dedicated to the success and commitment of the team. I love to run the court and play unselfishly which I think fits with the style of play at Memorial."

Coach English also highlighted Ball's experience and character as key additions to the Seahawks culture.

"Maya brings a high basketball IQ and valuable experience that will be a big asset for our group. She understands the game at a high level and competes on both ends of the floor. Just as important, she's an Academic All Canadian and someone who fits exactly what we look for in our program. Her work ethic, commitment, and team-first approach make her a great fit and will add positively to our culture."
